Most of Industrial software tools dedicated to help designers are validation software. They only check weather the spring proposed by the designer is good or not.

Our work deals with creating software tools that propose optimal stock springs and optimal custom spring design directly from using the designer specifications.

According to that, a new algorithm for choosing the best stock spring from within a database and a complete approach to perform an optimal spring design have been realised.

The proposed methods can be used in the early design stages when most part shapes and dimensions are not already fixed.

Specifications where data is toleranced are favorably exploited by the spring optimization process.

The research work related to optimal compression spring design is now been included in the SPRING CAD SOFTWARE PACKAGES from the Institute of Spring Technology. IST is the unique international centre of excellence for all aspects of springs and spring technology.

The analytical formulae developped to describe the behavior of conical springs with a constant pitch are included in the Advanced Spring Design software from the Spring Manufacturer Institute .
